About the LL.B Programme conducted by Law Centre-I.

A. The Degree:
Law Centre-I--conducts study and research leading to the LL.B. degree.
The classes in Law Centre-I--are held in the afternoon session (3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and in the evening session (6:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.).

B. Attendance Requirements:
1. Students pursuing LL.B. programme are required to attend 66% of the lectures in each subject, including moot court and other activities.
2. In exceptional cases, for reasons to be recorded and communicated to the Bar Council of India, the Dean of the Faculty of Law/ Professor-in-Charge of Law Centre-I may condone attendance short of those required by this Rule, if the student had attended 66% of the lectures in the aggregate per semester examinations.
3. The Professor-in-Charge shall have the power to detain and strike off name of a student in case of gross irregularity in attendance.

C. Promotion Rules:
A student of the First Term LL.B. Programme will be promoted to the Second Term, irrespective of the number of courses in which he/she has failed to pass or failed to appear in the First Term Examinations, provided that he or she has not been detained on account of shortage of attendance in First Term Examinations. A student will be promoted to Third Term LL.B. Programme only in those cases where he/she has passed at least five courses offered by him/her at the LL.B First and Second Term Examinations taken together.

D. No Readmission in LL. B. Ist year:
There shall be no readmission in the First Year of LL.B. Programme. In other words a candidate seeking admission to LL.B First year has to apply and appear as a fresh candidate.

E. Examination:
Candidates appearing for first/second/third/fourth/fifth or sixth Term LL.B. Programme examination are required to contact the Law Centre-I office for all information relating to examination. The students have to observe the last dates prescribed in this regard and the late fee is chargeable as per applicable rules in case there is a delay in depositing the form. If the examination form is not submitted beyond a particular date the student is not allowed to take the examination.
In case of ex-students and for supplementary examinations, the indicative dates, which may vary, should be confirmed from Law Centre-I office.

F. Late Submission of Examination form on Penalty:
Late Fee ranges from Rs 50-00 to Rs 100-00 for each fortnight. More details be enquired from Law Centre-I office.

G. Late Enrollment as ex student on Penalty:
An application for registration as an ex-student may be entertained or the fees may be accepted in special cases on payment of the prescribed late penalty. No application for an examination shall be accepted, for any reason whatsoever, beyond 15 days before the commencement of the said examination.

H. Pass Percentage and Classification of Successful Candidates
The following shall be the percentage of marks for passing the examination and for classification of successful candidates admitted to the LL.B. course:
(i) A candidate must pass in all the 30 courses in six semesters to be eligible to obtain the LL.B. Degree;
(ii) A candidate must secure not less than 45% marks to pass in each paper;
(iii) A candidate securing 60% marks or more in the aggregate in all the 30 courses taken together will be awarded First Division;
(iv) A candidate securing less than 60% marks but ‘not less than 50% marks in the aggregate in all the 30 courses taken together will be awarded Second Division;
(v) No division will be awarded to a candidate securing less than 50% marks in the aggregate in all the 30 courses taken together;
(vi) Distinction in any paper(s) or a Semester will be awarded only to those candidates who passed in all papers of the semester concerned in one attempt in normal course securing 75% marks in the paper(s) concerned.

I. Pass Percentage and Classification of Successful Candidates Admission in second and third year:
Admission to Second and Third Year LL.B. Programme is subject to promotion rules.
I(a) Promotion Rules:
A student of the Third and Fifth Term will be promoted to the Fourth and Sixth Term respectively, irrespective of the number of courses in which he/she has failed to pass or failed to appear in the Third or Fifth Term Examinations, provided that he or she has not been detained on account of shortage of attendance in Third or fifth Term Examinations, as the case may be.
Provided further that no such student shall be admitted to the Third or Fifth Term, unless he/she has passed in at least five courses offered by him/her for the first and Second Term Examinations taken together in case of promotion from first year to second year and in at least fifteen courses offered by him/her for the First, Second, Third and Fourth Term Examinations taken together in case of promotion from Second year to Third year of the LL.B. course.
Note: The students eligible for admission to III/V Term must seek admission not later than two weeks from the date(s) of announcement of the results of LL.B. II/IV Term Annual Examinations or within one week of commencement of classes, whichever is later, failing which they will forfeit their right to be admitted to III/V Term.

J. Supplementary Examinations:
After the completion of six terms, a student of LL.B. may take supplementary examination in any paper of Ist or IIIrd Term along with the Vth Term supplementary examination and in any paper of IInd or IVth Term along with the VIth Term supplementary examination held under the existing scheme.

K. Maximum Span Period:
All the thirty papers required for getting the LL.B. Degree have to be cleared within the over all span of six years.
The following rules shall apply:
(a) Subject to the provisions contained in the Ordinance relating
(a) Subject to the provisions contained in the Ordinance relating to ex-students as in force from time to time, a student must clear all the courses offered in all the Terms within a span period of six years from the date of admission to first year of the LL.B. course. No student shall be admitted as a candidate for any LL.B. examination after six years from the date of admission to the first year of the course.
(b) When a student has for one reason or the other discontinued his/ her studies in the Second, Fourth or Sixth Term, or has been detained for shortage of attendance, the result of any examination taken by him/her at the end of First, Third or Fifth Term, as the case may be, of that academic year shall not be cancelled. This will not at any stage, however, relieve the student of his/her obligation to put in the requisite attendance as per rules.

L. Improvement of Previous Performance
1. A regular student studying in the Third Term may be permitted to surrender his/her result of any subject of the First Term within one month of the commencement of the Term provided:
(a) he/she has passed that subject in the first attempt; and
(b) at the time of surrendering his/her result he/she has passed at least 5 other subjects of the First and Second Terms taken together excluding the subjects the result of which he/she wishes to surrender.
2. A regular student studying in the Fourth Term may be permitted to surrender the result of any subject of the Second Term within one month of the publication of result of the Third Term examination held that year provided:
(a) he/she has passed that subject in the first attempt; and
(b) at the time of surrendering his/her results he/she has passed at least 5 other subjects of the First and Second Terms taken together excluding the subjects the result of which he/she wishes to surrender.
3. A regular student studying in the Fifth Term may be permitted to surrender the result of any subject of the Third Term within one month of the commencement of the Term provided:
(a) he/she has passed the subject in the first attempt; and
(b) at the time of surrendering his/her result he/she has passed at least 15 other subjects of the First, Second, Third and Fourth Terms taken together excluding the subjects the result of which he/she wishes to surrender.
4. A regular student studying in the Sixth Term may be permitted to surrender the result of any subject of the Fourth Term within one month of the commencement of the Term provided:
(a) he/she has passed that subject in the first attempt; and
(b) at the time of surrendering his/her result he/she has passed at least 15 other subjects of the First, Second, Third and Fourth Terms taken together excluding the subject the result of which he/she wishes to surrender.
5. A student who has been promoted to the Sixth Term may be permitted to surrender the results of not more than two subjects of the Fifth Term within one month of the commencement of the Term or publication of the result of the Fifth Term, whichever is later. In such a case he/she will take the supplementary examination in those subjects to be held in that year subject to his/her being eligible for the benefit of supplementary examinations.
6. A student who has passed in all the subjects of the Sixth Term may, within one month of the declaration of the result of Sixth Term examination, surrender his/her result of not more than two subjects of the Sixth Term alongwith a declaration that he/she will not seek enrollment or employment or any other benefit on the basis that he/she has passed the LL.B. examination till such time the result of the subject in which he/ she wishes to improve his/her performance has been declared. He/ she will take the examination at the next available opportunity.
7. Such candidates who surrender results in order to improve their performance will take the examination in the current question paper based on the latest syllabus alongwith the regular students of that year.

M. Re-admission
(i) A candidate who had earlier been admitted to the LL.B. (three-year) Second or Third Year Course of Law Centre-I and had for one reason or the other discontinued his/her studies or had been detained for shortage in attendance may be re-admitted provided (i) he/she seeks re-admission within the date prescribed by the Dean, Faculty of Law (ii) his/her conduct has been satisfactory and (iii) he/she shows sufficient cause to the satisfaction of the In-Charge of Law Centre-I for his/her discontinuance of studies or for not having put in the requisite percentage of attendance at lectures, etc., as the case may be.
(ii) A candidate who has failed in examination, or failed to appear in the examination and who is otherwise eligible to appear in the examination as an ex-student, shall not be admitted as regular student. In exceptional cases, however, where such candidate is a foreigner, studying under the Cultural Scholarships Scheme of the Government of India etc., re-admission may be allowed.
(iii) In respect of a candidate seeking re-admission, his previous record shall be carefully scrutinized by the In-Charge of Law Centre-I and her/his decision shall be final.
(iv) There shall be no re-admission in the first year of LL.B. course.
Course Contents of LL.B. Programme
1. The course for the Degree of Bachelor of Laws shall extend over a period of three academic years, i.e. six Terms in all.
2. The medium of instruction and examination shall be English. A student has, however, a choice to take his/her examination in Hindi.
3. Instructions shall also include Seminars, Tutorial Work, Moot Courts and Practical Training Programmes, if any.
4. There shall be one examination at the end of each Term; the academic year is divided into two Terms.
5. The examination shall consist of one written examination at the end of each Term in the courses prescribed. One paper shall be set in each of the courses prescribed for study and the examination in a paper shall be of three hours duration. Each course carries 100 marks.

5. A student who has been promoted to the Sixth Term may be permitted to surrender the results of not more than two subjects of the Fifth Term within one month of the commencement of the Term or publication of the result of the Fifth Term, whichever is later. In such a case he/she will take the supplementary examination in those subjects to be held in that year subject to his/her being eligible for the benefit of supplementary examinations.
6. A student who has passed in all the subjects of the Sixth Term may, within one month of the declaration of the result of Sixth Term examination, surrender his/her result of not more than two subjects of the Sixth Term alongwith a declaration that he/she will not seek enrollment or employment or any other benefit on the basis that he/she has passed the LL.B. examination till such time the result of the subject in which he/ she wishes to improve his/her performance has been declared. He/ she will take the examination at the next available opportunity.
7. Such candidates who surrender results in order to improve their performance will take the examination in the current question paper based on the latest syllabus alongwith the regular students of that year.

M. Re-admission

(three-year) Second or Third Year Course of Law Centre-I and had for one reason or the other discontinued his/her studies or had been detained for shortage in attendance may be re-admitted provided (i) he/she seeks re-admission within the date prescribed by the Dean, Faculty of Law (ii) his/her conduct has been satisfactory and (iii) he/she shows sufficient cause to the satisfaction of the In-Charge of Law Centre-I for his/her discontinuance of studies or for not having put in the requisite percentage of attendance at lectures, etc., as the case may be.
(ii) A candidate who has failed in examination, or failed to appear in the examination and who is otherwise eligible to appear in the examination as an ex-student, shall not be admitted as regular student. In exceptional cases, however, where such candidate is a foreigner, studying under the Cultural Scholarships Scheme of the Government of India etc., re-admission may be allowed.
(iii) In respect of a candidate seeking re-admission, his previous record shall be carefully scrutinized by the In-Charge of Law Centre-I and her/his decision shall be final.
(iv) There shall be no re-admission in the first year of LL.B. course.
Course Contents of LL.B. Programme
1. The course for the Degree of Bachelor of Laws shall extend over a period of three academic years, i.e. six Terms in all.
2. The medium of instruction and examination shall be English. A student has, however, a choice to take his/her examination in Hindi.
3. Instructions shall also include Seminars, Tutorial Work, Moot Courts and Practical Training Programmes, if any.
4. There shall be one examination at the end of each Term; the academic year is divided into two Terms.
5. The examination shall consist of one written examination at the end of each Term in the courses prescribed. One paper shall be set in each of the courses prescribed for study and the examination in a paper shall be of three hours duration. Each course carries 100 marks.
