Legal Services Society, Law Centre-I
The task of the Legal Services Society is to provide the law students an occasion to learn by doing, use social spaces as a class room, sensitize them to the nature of law that can empower or oppress, facilitate access to justice to the deprived and marginalized, and create socially responsible citizens, advocate, judges, police officers and other State officials.
Aim of Legal services Society is to provide free legal aid services to the various sections of the society (Section 12 Legal Services Authority Act, 1987), because we believe that justice should be available to all. We have an excellent judicial system and everyone should be able to avail its benefits, but most people can't or won't!
Many are not aware of their rights or the remedies available to them under law, and this number of people increases with decrease in the level of education managed by them, and it further goes up when the people who desperately need the services of our legal system, do not have the financial resources for it. Now that amounts to an enormous section of our society and we want to help them to the best of our abilities so that they can take advantage of our illustrious judicial system.
To provide free access to justice to the needy, the unprivileged and the marginalized people of the society, Legal Services Clinic of Law Centre-1 was inaugurated in collaboration with Delhi State Legal Services Authority on 25th August, 2012 by Hon'ble justice S. Muralidharan in the presence of Addl. Solicitor General Mr. Sidharth Luthra.
