MOOTERS’ SOCIETY, LAW CENTRE-1
HOW TO GET INDUCTED IN THE SOCIETY :
The problem for the First Year Induction Moot Court Competition 2014 was disclosed on 4th September, 2014 which was the last day of the Moot Court Skills Training Workshop. The Oral Arguments will be held on 22nd September, 2014 at 8:45 am in Law Centre-1 and the Memorial submission for the same is on 19th September latest by 7:00 pm. In the Selection Moot you have to argue from either side so read, re-read the problem and then decide the side for yourself. (Just a suggestion, choose a side from where you can gather more material. I know most of us like challenges but don’t take that risk during the Selection Moot as this alone is the license of getting into the society in your first year).
Previously a total number of 7 students used to get inducted in the society from the first year, however last year, the number was increased to 12 and good news is that this year as well they intend to induct 12 members and they will be called the EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS of the Society. Their will also be a prize for “BEST SPEAKER” AND “BEST MEMORIAL”
FUNCTIONS OF THE SOCIETY :
The good thing about the LC-1 Mooters’ Society is that they believe in healthy competition and fair chance to all. This is because, unlike most of the other law colleges where you can only participate in Moot Court Competitions if you are a member of the Society, in LC-1 there is no such privilege given to the members. They have to go through the same internal procedure for getting selected for a moot court competition as the others.
Before any competition, a date will be fixed for the internal round and this internal round is open for all students of the college, the EC as well as the Non EC. The top 3 in the internal round will form a team and depending on their scores from ascending order they will be Speaker No. 1, Speaker No. 2 and the Researcher respectively.
So, even if you are not able to make it to the Society at the time of Selection Moot, its not that Mooting for you comes to an end. You can take part in as many moots as you wish to.
So, what do the member of the society do then? They organize moots !
LC-1 organizes two moots in one academic year,
1. All Delhi NCR Moot Court Competition which is in its 12th year and
2. NHRC- LC 1 Moot Court Competition which is in its 3rd year.
The former as the name suggests is amongst colleges located in Delhi- NCR in which as many as 14-16 colleges take part and the latter is a national moot in which a total number of 54 teams took part in its first year.
